The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles will take on the North Sanpete Hawks at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Maple Mountain has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Maple Mountain's last matchup with Springville could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Thursday. The Golden Eagles came up short against the Red Devils, falling 13-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their meetings with the Red Devils: they've now lost five in a row.
Izzie Groneman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
16 must be North Sanpete's lucky number: they beat Delta with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Rabbits with a sharp 16-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
North Sanpete also got a great performance from Annie Madsen as she tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, North Sanpete let Mylee Cook and Shea Rawlinson run wild. Cook scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Rawlinson scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Cook has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Autumn Oldroyd, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
North Sanpete always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
North Sanpete's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Maple Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Maple Mountain hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .391. However, it's not like North Sanpete struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Maple Mountain suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to North Sanpete when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
