On Monday, Michigan City didn't have quite enough to beat New Prairie and fell 4-3.
Mahdi Mroueh was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. AJ Galindo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run.
Meanwhile, Lake Central put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Columbus North get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Grant Mercer tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ryder Fernandez and Keegan O'Bryan did most of the damage at the plate: Fernandez went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double, while O'Bryan got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That triple was Fernandez's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Parker Robinson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Lake Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Michigan City's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Lake Central, their record is now 8-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Michigan City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lake Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Michigan City suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Lake Central in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
