The Utica Eisenhower Eagles will face off against the Mott Corsairs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Utica Eisenhower took an 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against L'Anse Creuse North, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Crusaders on Friday, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted against the Crusaders since May 19, 2016.
Meanwhile, Mott had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Corsairs have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Karter Starr and Kyle Wingate were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Starr tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Wingate tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Starr earned three runs and four stolen bases, while Wingate earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base. Those four stolen bases gave Starr a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brady Schrah, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Kliewer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Mott always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ferndale only posted an OBP of .100.
Utica Eisenhower's win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Mott, their victory bumped their record up to 14-8.
