The St. Monica Mariners waltzed into Friday's game with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Montclair and snuck past 45-42. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
St. Monica was led to victory by Bradley Cassier and Joshua Barnes. Cassier threw for 327 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt, while Barnes picked up 203 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Montclair still got an impressive performance from Elijah Tehe, who rushed for 275 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.2 yards per carry, and also picked up 31 receiving yards. Tehe hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Cervantes, who rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns.
St. Monica has yet to lose a game on the road this season, leaving them with a 10-3 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Locke and 3-7 Mary Star of the Sea (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.2% over those games). As for Montclair, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
St. Monica will look to defend their home field on Friday against Desert Hot Springs at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Desert Hot Springs is ranked 575th, while St. Monica is ranked 584th). Montclair does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
