Baseball Recap: Whitmore Lake Finds Home Field Redemption Against Lutheran

There's no place like home for Whitmore Lake, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Lutheran Warriors on Friday as they made off with an 11-1 win. With that victory, the Trojans brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Cooper Abla was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, James Burns and Curtis Bower did most of the damage at the plate: Burns got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Bower went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Burns has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Chase Abla, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Whitmore Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lutheran only posted an OBP of .280.

Whitmore Lake's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Lutheran, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitmore Lake will square off against Erie-Mason at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Lutheran, they will take on Inter-City Baptist at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
