The Roncalli Royals and the Triton Central Tigers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
Roncalli suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. Their tough 61-35 defeat to Warren Central might stick with them for a while. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Roncalli has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Roncalli got a solid performance out of Noah Schmaltz, who scored 11 points. Schmaltz continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Joe Taylor was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Meanwhile, Triton Central rang in the new year with a 43-36 victory over Morristown last Saturday. Given Triton Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Morristown is ranked 404th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Triton Central can attribute much of their success to Eli Sego, who scored 12 points along with six steals, and Silas Blair, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds. Sego hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Taggart Goul, who scored four points.
Roncalli's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Triton Central, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.
Roncalli strolled past Triton Central when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 71-54. Will Roncalli repeat their success, or does Triton Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
