The Grangeville Bulldogs will face off against the St. Maries Lumberjacks at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Grangeville comes in on six and St. Maries on three.
On Thursday, Grangeville earned a 14-10 win over McCall-Donnelly.
The team relied heavily on Maddison Harris, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Makenna York, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Grangeville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. They are 10-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, St. Maries got the win against Kellogg on Tuesday by a conclusive 19-8. The Lumberjacks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by eight runs or more this season.
Addyson Stewart made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, St. Maries got a massive performance out of Madison Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Brenna Elliott was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Grangeville pushed their record up to 12-8 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.8 runs over those games. As for St. Maries, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Grangeville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. However, it's not like St. Maries struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Grangeville suffered a grim 14-6 defeat to St. Maries in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
