The Chillicothe Hornets had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They came out on top against Grain Valley by a score of 56-49. Given Chillicothe's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Eagles are ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chillicothe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jolie Bonderer, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bonderer has scored at least a third of Chillicothe's points. Liz Oliver was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Chillicothe's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Grain Valley, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chillicothe will take on the Warriors at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Smithville will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak. As for Grain Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.
