St. Paul has gone 9-1 against Saint Joseph recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Swordsmen will host the Jesters at 3:15 p.m. St. Paul is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
St. Paul managed to slip by El Rancho the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Swordsmen came up short against the Dons on Monday, falling 11-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Swordsmen have suffered since February 18th.
Gianelle Napoles was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Aleena Gutierrez was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI. Eveny Gomez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Saint Joseph hadn't done well against St. Paul recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Jesters sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Swordsmen. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Jesters have posted since March 25th.
Eris Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Morgan Mora, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Becerra, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Saint Joseph has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for St. Paul, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Paul hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Saint Joseph struggles in that department as they've averaged .412. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Paul couldn't quite finish off Saint Joseph in their previous matchup on Thursday and fell 5-3. Will the Swordsmen have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
