The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past Falfurrias with a 60-54 victory. Given Skidmore-Tynan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Falfurrias is ranked 390th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Skidmore-Tynan was led to victory by Alexander Gonzalez and Cole Rivers. Gonzalez scored 17 points along with 3 steals, while Rivers scored 15 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. The game was Gonzalez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Steven Garza was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Despite the defeat, Falfurrias saw an underclassman step up: Quisto Sanchez scored 20 points. The contest was Sanchez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Ramirez, who scored 6 points along with 7 rebounds.
Skidmore-Tynan's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Falfurrias, they bumped their record down to 6-1 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Skidmore-Tynan will square off against Harmony School of Excellence at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Falfurrias will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Agua Dulce at 8:30 a.m. on December 1st.
