6A District 6 recap October 1, 2013
Davion Sutton of Fivay ran for the longest rushing play in 6A District 6 this season against Anclote last week. Sutton ran for 80 yards on the play and finished with 133 on the day as his team lost to the Sharks.
Land O'Lakes extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Gulf, 31-20. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Gators.
Larenz Scroggins provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Land O'Lakes bested the Buccaneers. Scroggins' favorite target this week was Ethan Weilant, who caught 4 passes for 41 yards.
Scroggins was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 170 yards on 16 carries as Brian Wachtel's team defeated River Ridge. Mike Studenberg also contributed to the rushing game with 13 yards on the ground.
Leading 6A District 6 in both passing and receiving yards, the Gators' James Pensyl and Liam Heaney have proven to be a lethal combination. Pensyl has thrown for 1,277 yards this season, while Heaney, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 26 catches for 380 yards. Nathan Johnson from Sunlake leads the league in rushing with 643 yards.
At the moment, the Seahawks are in second, while the Mustangs are in fourth.
Springstead scaled the state rankings by moving to 163 from 191 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of topping Berkeley Prep 30-18.
