Kellis extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-9. They came up short against the Ironwood Eagles, falling 17-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-1 on Tuesday.
Marianna Carrizoza made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Brooke Frinkle, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
As for Ironwood, they pushed their record up to 7-3-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Considering they have won seven matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Ironwood's side, Kassandra Uriarte was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Uriarte has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ironwood got a massive performance out of Diana Gallagher, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Gallagher a new career-high. Dakota Clifton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kellis will square off against Lake Havasu at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.22 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ironwood, they will take on Willow Canyon at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
