After a string of four wins, the Nacogdoches Dragons's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 72-55 bruising from Rockwall-Heath. While losing is never fun, Nacogdoches can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while Rockwall-Heath is ranked 65th).
It was another big night for Cooper Smith, who scored 22 points along with six assists and six rebounds for Rockwall-Heath. Smith set a new season high mark in steals with five. Another player making a difference was Kaiden Adams, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Nacogdoches' loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Rockwall-Heath, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-5.
Nacogdoches won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Temple at 3:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Temple is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. Rockwall-Heath will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Timber Creek at 8:00 p.m. on December 28, 2023.
