Cambria Heights is a perfect 5-0 against Portage since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Highlanders will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Cambria Heights is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Cambria Heights' offense. They fell 3-0 to Conemaugh Valley on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Highlanders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Cambria Heights saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gina Lane, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, while Portage put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for United. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 11-0 win. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Payton Noll was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lyndsey Castel, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kiera McCarty was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Portage was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Portage pushed their record up to 4-13 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Cambria Heights, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-6.
Portage's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cambria Heights hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. It's a different story for Portage, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain Cambria Heights' hitters?
