Cape Fear took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They breezed past the Douglas Byrd Eagles to the tune of 42-0. The win continues a trend for the Colts in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.
Cape Fear's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Geronimo Sanchez, who rushed for 65 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 71 yards and a pair of TDs. Jason Nelson was another key rusher, rushing for 85 yards and one score on only eight carries.
Cape Fear didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of DeAnte' Hargrove and Darian Kariotis. Kariotis got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cape Fear is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Seventy-First at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Douglas Byrd, they will head out to face off against Western Harnett at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
