Even though the Kiski Area Cavaliers have not done well against the Mars Fightin' Planets recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Kiski Area narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Mars 52-50. Given Kiski Area's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Mars is ranked 191st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mars' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryan Ceh, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Ceh's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Remi Black, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Kiski Area and bumps their season record up to 5-1. As for Mars, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kiski Area will be home for the holidays to greet Indiana at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mars will be home for the holidays to greet Trinity at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
