The Caney Valley Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Oklahoma Union Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Caney Valley beat Hominy 8-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Trojans.
Logan Horsman and Bryor Bonde made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Horsman struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Bonde tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. What's more, Horsman gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Horsman scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3, while Bonde scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs Horsman has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Preston Gipson and Logan Thompson did most of the damage at the plate: Gipson scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Thompson went 3-for-4 with four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Caidyn Kyler, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, while Oklahoma Union put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Pawhuska. Oklahoma Union was the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Pawhuska.
Jake Harris was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Nathan Dean was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Oklahoma Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pawhuska only posted an OBP of .188.
Caney Valley's record now sits at 2-0. As for Oklahoma Union, their record now sits at 3-1.
Caney Valley came up short against Oklahoma Union in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 10-6. Can Caney Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
