It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Don Lugo Conquistadores can now relate to. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 52-35 to Coachella Valley. Don Lugo's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Don Lugo's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kalib Pacheco, who threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt. Another player making a difference was Boe Canty, who rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry.
Aaron Ramirez was his usual excellent self, rushing for 376 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per carry, and also picking up 105 receiving yards and a touchdown. Ramirez's longest rush was for an incredible 83 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Calderon, who threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Coachella Valley's defensive line and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Javi Oliva and Sebastian Arriaga who racked up four sacks between them.
Don Lugo's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Coachella Valley, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Don Lugo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Coachella Valley will head out on the road to face off against Cerritos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cerritos will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
