After a string of five wins, the Lafayette Hornets's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to Branford. Lafayette was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Branford apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Lafayette's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amarie Fleming, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Fleming has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Trevor Mares, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Lafayette's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5. As for Branford, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-6.
Lafayette won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Dixie County at 8:00 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Branford, they will head out on the road to take on Bronson at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
