The Hammond Skyhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 21 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Lugoff-Elgin 75-48 at home. The win made it back-to-back wins for Hammond.
Samira Khalil continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 34 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Hammond's points. Kayce Hyman was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Several Demons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jillian Rush, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. The match was Rush's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamille Charles, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Hammond pushed their record up to 6-3 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.
Hammond will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Wilson Hall at 6:15 p.m. Wilson Hall is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. Lugoff-Elgin and Sumter will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sumter is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
