The Marcellus Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Solvay Bearcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Marcellus has four straight wins, Solvay has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Marcellus' game was all tied up 31-31 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Bishop Ludden by a score of 61-54.
Marcellus got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Will Kershaw out in front who scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. Tucker Burnett was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Solvay lost to Oswego at home by a decisive 63-44 margin on Friday.
Marcellus pushed their record up to 4-0 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.8 points per game. As for Solvay, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
Marcellus was able to grind out a solid win over Solvay in their previous matchup back in January, winning 61-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marcellus since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
