The Appomattox County Raiders are taking a road trip to challenge the Liberty Minutemen at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Appomattox County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Appomattox County barely beat Randolph-Henry the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Raiders blew past the Statesmen 9-2 on Thursday. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Statesmen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Isaac Records tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Jack Wilkerson
04/24/25 @ Randolph-Henry | 3 |
04/17/25 vs Buckingham | 2 |
04/15/25 @ Gretna | 2 |
03/19/24 vs Amherst County | 2 |
04/23/25 @ William Campbell | 1 |
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jack Wilkerson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Stratton, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Appomattox County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Liberty was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Amherst County, falling 17-2.
Liberty saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Stevens, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Stevens has brought in this season.
Appomattox County pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.
Liberty's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Appomattox County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Liberty, though, as they've been averaging only 2.5 strikeouts. Will Appomattox County keep running through batters, or will the Minutemen buck the trend?
Appomattox County was able to grind out a solid victory over Liberty when the teams last played back in March, winning 6-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
