It was another big night for Journee Tonga, who rushed for 212 yards while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 110.5 rushing yards per game.
Leuzinger's defense stepped up as well, laying out Dane Weber six times. Chaparral's QB won't forget Samu Moala anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Moala also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 11. Leuzinger got some further help from Fakaanga (Sharkee) Vanisi: he picked up a sack and made 12 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, San Clemente made easy work of Vista Murrieta on Friday and carried off a 32-7 win.
Leuzinger better keep an eye on Carson Sloan. He was instrumental in San Clemente's win, rushing for 137 yards and one touchdown. Those 137 rushing yards gave Sloan a new career-high.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something San Clemente proved: they limited Vista Murrieta to a paltry 2.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Payton Proffitt for the heroic effort on defense: he. San Clemente's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.74 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 3.87 on average over their last three games.
San Clemente didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Thomas Alexander led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself.
Leuzinger's record is now 11-1. As for San Clemente, their record now sits at 8-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Leuzinger has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 183.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for San Clemente, though, as they've been averaging only 92.4 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
