Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whitney). They were the clear victors by an 18-12 margin over the Artesia Pioneers on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wildcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Monicka Manni made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Whitney got a massive performance out of Chiugo Anyama, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Madison Velazquez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
With the victory, Whitney broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-9. As for Artesia, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
Whitney and Artesia will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Wildcats see the field they'll take on Cerritos at 3:15 p.m. on the 29th. As for Artesia, their break will end when they face Oxford Academy at 3:15 p.m. on the 29th.
