Wayne hasn't had much luck against Herbert Hoover recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Pioneers will head out to face off against the Huskies at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wayne 3.4, Herbert Hoover 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Wayne had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Fairland on Tuesday. The Pioneers never let the Dragons get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The Pioneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
Bristol Tiller made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaycee Mills, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Averi Napier was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Wayne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairland only posted a batting average of .118.
Meanwhile, Herbert Hoover entered their tilt with Riverside on Tuesday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 5-1.
Jocelyn Schafer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.
On the hitting side, Taylor Jones was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Bella Haas, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Wayne's record now sits at 12-6. As for Herbert Hoover, their record is now 17-3.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wayne hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Herbert Hoover struggles in that department as they've averaged .350. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wayne came up short against Herbert Hoover when the teams last played back in March of 2025, falling 7-2. Can the Pioneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
