The JAG Jaguars just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Lanier Poets at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
JAG posted their biggest win yet this season on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 81-51 win over Pike Road on the road. The win was a breath of fresh air for JAG as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead JAG to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ladarius Givan, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ethan Friendly, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lanier entered their tilt with Stanhope Elmore with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Lanier strolled past Stanhope Elmore with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 58-44. Given Lanier's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Stanhope Elmore is ranked 291st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
JAG's victory bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Lanier, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season.
JAG skirted past Lanier 55-53 in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for JAG since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
