Football Recap: Sulphur's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Acadiana, Sulphur was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the New Iberia Yellowjackets 44-41. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Golden Tors as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Sulphur found their leader in sophomore Dalton Shirley, who rushed for 56 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 155 yards and two TDs. Another player making a difference was Tyler Joubert, who rushed for 88 yards and two scores.

Sulphur's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-4. As for New Iberia, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sulphur will venture away from home to square off against Southside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Tors will need to watch out since the Sharks have now posted at least 31 points in their last five matchups. As for New Iberia, they are taking a road trip to challenge Barbe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Yellowjackets will be up against the Buccaneers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.33 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
