Oakwood had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat the Arcola Purple Riders 43-15. The Comets pushed the score to 36-13 by the end of the third, a deficit the Purple Riders had little chance of recovering from.
Oakwood was led to victory by Caydence Vermillion and Emma Koontz. Vermillion posted 14 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals, while Koontz dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Koontz a new career-high in blocks (three). Lainee Smith was another key player, putting up five points and five boards.
