Granger might have drawn first blood against Mabton on Friday, but it was Mabton who got the last laugh. Granger took a 12-19 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mabton. Granger was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mabton apparently hadn't forgotten their loss from the last time the teams met up.
Freshman Andrez Zavala, who passed for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns, was a major factor in the success. Additional support came from defensive powerhouse senior Jorge Espinoza, who racked up 12 tackles. This was the first contest for both squads, starting Granger off on the wrong foot at 0-1, while giving Mabton a 1-0 record.
Granger are packing up and heading on the road for the first time this season. They face off against Wahluke next week at 7:00 PM. Mabton will be defending their home turf for the first time next week when they go up against Columbia at 7:00 PM.
