State College (Pa.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 14 points, drop to seven before the final whistle blew on a 20-13 victory over
Mifflin County (Lewistown, Pa.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Pat Irwin to
Jake Knouse in the first quarter, the Little Lions led 20-6 at the half.
Irwin was the top performer for State College. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
Shane Whalen made a difference for the Huskies. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to two on the year.
SC went into the matchup giving up only 17.1 points per game. The 13 points that Mifflin County ended with were below its average of 18.4 coming into the game.
The loss comes after Mifflin County defeated Central Dauphin East 15-12 last week. With the win the Little Lions extended their winning streak to four games.
State College (7-2) will play a Mid-Penn - Commonwealth game against Cumberland Valley next week, while Mifflin County (4-5) will take on Chambersburg also in a Mid-Penn - Commonwealth game.
