This season hasn't been kind to the Sublette Larks, who are still winless after their ninth matchup. They took a 44-25 bruising from Stanton County on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sublette in their matchups with Stanton County: they've now lost four in a row.
Sublette's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Talyna Guenter, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Stanton County found their leader in underclassman Avery Scott, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 20 rebounds. Scott is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexy Martinez, who scored ten points.
Sublette's loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.7 points per game. As for Stanton County, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sublette will challenge Wichita County at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Wichita County is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Stanton County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Southwestern Heights at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Southwestern Heights focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Monday.
