The McLean Highlanders came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 30-26 win over Langley. The victory was all the more spectacular given McLean's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Saxons are ranked 20th).
Langley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vicky Zawisza, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Zawisza pulled down eight or more rebounds. Anya Rahman was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals and two blocks.
McLean's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. As for Langley, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 19-2.
McLean does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Langley will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Generals at 7:30 p.m.
