The Hertford County Bears were the 55-52 winner over the Northeastern Eagles when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Hertford County fell 57-48 to the Eagles on Friday.
Hertford County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shimere Garris, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Jayden Robinson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Northeastern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sayvion Saunders, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Saunders is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyell Saunders, who scored 16 points.
Hertford County's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Northeastern, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hertford County will take on the Nighthawks at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. First Flight will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Northeastern's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Bruins at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Camden County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 445th, while the Eagles are ranked 164th).
