Mathis is 0-10 against Aransas Pass since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mathis Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Aransas Pass Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Mathis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Wednesday.
Mathis scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They came out on top against George West by a score of 70-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Ashton Quesada, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and two steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Brandon Reed, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Aransas Pass came up short against Taft on Tuesday and fell 63-54.
Mathis' victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-11. As for Aransas Pass, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-17.
Mathis was dealt a bruising 79-40 loss at the hands of Aransas Pass in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mathis was down 44-18.
