Wyoming Area's Cody Schmitz rumbled for the longest rushing play in Wyoming Valley 2A/1A this season in his game against Greater Nanticoke Area last week. Schmitz's team topped the Trojans as he sprinted for 78 yards on the play and finished with 127 in all.
Wyoming Area moved up to 256 from 303 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Randy Spencer's team was able to make the jump by beating Greater Nanticoke Area 44-14.
GAR Memorial's dynamic duo of Corey Moore and Lucas Benton proved tough for Holy Redeemer to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Moore threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns and Benton had 159 yards receiving. Rich Sickler helped GAR Memorial's passing attack out by catching three balls for 43 yards.
Nick O?brien was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 181 yards as the Warriors topped the Royals.
GAR Memorial's Moore and Benton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Wyoming Valley 2A/1A in both passing and receiving yards. Moore has thrown for 766 yards this season, while Benton, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 28 catches for 400 yards. Wyoming Area's O?brien leads the league in rushing yards with 728.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Warriors take on Holy Redeemer. Wyoming Area's offense has racked up 135 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Royals have allowed only 229 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Paul Wiedlich's team takes on Lake-Lehman. The Grenadiers are in fourth place, while the Knights are in first place.
Lake-Lehman extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Elmer L. Meyers, 50-29. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
