Basketball Recap: Avery Russell Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Hathaway Brown

Chagrin Falls's game on Friday was all tied up 20-20 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They secured a 45-40 W over the Hathaway Brown Blazers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2015.

Chagrin Falls' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avery Russell, who went 7 of 17 en route to 19 points in addition to six boards and four steals. Russell is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lilly Stukus, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Chagrin Falls was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hathaway Brown only racked up five assists.

Hathaway Brown's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emily Morgan, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Morgan a new career-high in points. Jane Kennedy was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Chagrin Falls has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Hathaway Brown, they dropped their record down to 4-12 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Chagrin Falls didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-37 defeat against Perry on the 29th. Hathaway Brown has also already played their next contest, a 48-28 victory against Hawken on the 25th.
