The Awaken Christian Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 47-30 fall against White Pine. Awaken Christian has struggled against White Pine recently, as their contest on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Awaken Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Phoenix Sharp, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and five blocks. Sharp is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Rasmussen, who scored six points along with five steals.
Awaken Christian struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as White Pine pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Leading White Pine to victory were Mallory Thompson and Brenley Skadburg. Thompson scored ten points along with eight rebounds and seven assists, while Skadburg scored 23 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Skadburg has scored at least a third of White Pine's points.
Awaken Christian's loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 6-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.0 points per game. As for White Pine, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Awaken Christian will stay at home for another game and welcome Founders Classical Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th. Founders Classical Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 16 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for White Pine, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Lincoln County at 6:00 p.m. Lincoln County will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
