Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Central Catholic's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Central Catholic was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against St. Michael on Tuesday. Central Catholic never let St. Michael's get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. That's more bragging rights for the Buttons, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The result came thanks to Sammy Garcia's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024.

At the plate, Jayson Sapp and Matt McClenan did most of the damage at the plate: Sapp scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while McClenan went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Sapp a new career-high. Rick Ramirez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Central Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. St. Michael's is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-15.

Central Catholic will have a chance to go back-to-back against St. Michael's: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
