Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Emerald Ridge's 11th in Last 14 Outings

Emerald Ridge barely beat South Kitsap the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Jaguars were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Wolves on Thursday. Considering the Jaguars have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Alanna Wirtala spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kenzie Stolmeier, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Abygale Redwine, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Emerald Ridge hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Kitsap struck out eight times.

Emerald Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for South Kitsap, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

Emerald Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Kitsap, they will host North Kitsap at 4:00 p.m. on the 9th.
