Clymer Central's 19-4 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell to Maple Grove 47-41. Clymer Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Clymer Central's defeat came about despite a quality game from Jonathan Massing, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Massing is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Mihalko, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Westfield earned a 57-48 win over Panama on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Westfield.
Carson Swanson went supernova for Westfield, scoring 21 points along with eight assists and seven steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Swanson has scored at least 25% of Westfield's points. Aaron Fuller was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Clymer Central now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Westfield, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Clymer Central have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 32 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Westfield, though, as they've been averaging only 26.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Clymer Central won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in February, slipping by Westfield 63-62. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clymer Central since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
