Royalton-Hartland had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 2-4 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Oakfield-Alabama Hornets with a sharp 13-7 victory. The Rams' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Sean Mettler was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Mettler was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Evan Poeller was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was John Brigham, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Royalton-Hartland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Oakfield-Alabama fell to 3-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this matchup were averaging 3.75 runs allowed.
Like Royalton-Hartland, Oakfield-Alabama also got a great game from a two-way player: Avery Watterson. Throwing, Watterson struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, David Schnaufer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Watterson went 4-for-5 with two runs, while Schnaufer went 4-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jack Cianfrini, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. Jackson Gilbert was another, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Royalton-Hartland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-4 loss against Akron on the 2nd. As for Oakfield-Alabama, they have also already played their next game, an 11-1 defeat against Kendall on the 29th.
