Brendan Caballero made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Miguel Rincon was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Kelly Bliss was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Glendale Prep Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Horizon Honors on Friday, sneaking past 2-1.
Eli Marsh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Glendale Prep Academy's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Rickey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Nathaniel Jensen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Tombstone's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Glendale Prep Academy, their record now sits at 16-3.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tombstone hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365.
