The Boyd-Buchanan Buccaneers fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Silverdale Academy Seahawks on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 65-64 to the Seahawks. Boyd-Buchanan's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Silverdale Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Houston Holland, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten assists. That's the first time this season that Holland posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Okpara, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds.
Boyd-Buchanan's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Silverdale Academy, they pushed their record up to 22-1 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Boyd-Buchanan will take on Silverdale Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Silverdale Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Boyd-Buchanan likes a good challenge. Silverdale Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Grace Baptist Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Grace Baptist Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 379th, while Silverdale Academy is ranked 38th).
