The Sports Leadership & Management Bulls will head out to square off against the Cimarron-Memorial Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
If Sports Leadership & Management beats Cimarron-Memorial with 17 runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Everything went the Bulls' way against Chaparral on Thursday as they made off with a 17-6 win. The Bulls haven't had any issues with the Cowboys recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Jameson Murray, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Alexander Huerta also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Murray wasn't the only one making solid contact: Sports Leadership & Management kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for Cimarron-Memorial, as they earned their first away win of the season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Valley a 23-0 shutout on Wednesday. With that victory, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.
Mares Kai and Isaiah Romero did most of the damage at the plate: Kai went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI, while Romero scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Kai has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cheldon Isa, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Cimarron-Memorial picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-13. As for Sports Leadership & Management, their record is now 7-10.
Sports Leadership & Management took their victory against Cimarron-Memorial when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 11-4 score. Will the Bulls repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
