It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Manheim Township Blue Streaks had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with a 37-27 win over the Eagles. The victory was just business as usual for Manheim Township, who after 12 games remain undefeated this season.
Hayden Johnson was his usual excellent self, throwing for 273 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84.2% of his passes, and also rushing for 89 yards on only 11 carries. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Kennel, who picked up 42 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Cumberland Valley's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bryce Staretz, who rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Staretz was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards. Caiden Pines was another key contributor, picking up 155 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Manheim Township has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 12-0 record. As for Cumberland Valley, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5.
Manheim Township will be playing in front of their home fans against Harrisburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Harrisburg: 15.4, Manheim Township: 10.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Cumberland Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
