Basketball Recap: Cedar Comes Up Short

Cedar was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 63-45 to the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles. The Reds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.

When it comes to explaining why Cedar lost, don't look at Taylor Davis. Despite the final result, he went 9 of 16 en route to 20 points and eight rebounds. Those 20 points gave Davis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Everett Kelling, who posted eight points.

Even though they lost, Cedar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Nash Jackson was nothing short of spectacular for Maple Mountain: he dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Erickson, who had eight points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Cedar's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Maple Mountain, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-7.

Cedar will take on Snow Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cedar is facing Snow Canyon at the right time seeing as Snow Canyon is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Maple Mountain, they will face off against Spanish Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Spanish Fork knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Maple Mountain likes a good challenge.
