Softball Game Preview: Andrean Fighting 59ers vs. Lafayette Central Catholic Knights

Andrean is a perfect 3-0 against Lafayette Central Catholic since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Fighting 59ers will look to defend their home field against the Knights at 11:00 a.m. The timing is sure in Andrean's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Lafayette Central Catholic has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Andrean proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over Morgan Township.

The team relied heavily on Maggie Voliva, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddy McCoy, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Lafayette Central Catholic fell victim to Rensselaer Central and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Bombers, falling 15-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Knights were not able to get on the board.

Lafayette Central Catholic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Campbell Brown, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.

Andrean's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Lafayette Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Lafayette Central Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Andrean has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Lafayette Central Catholic, though, as they've been averaging 11 hits. Given Andrean's sizable advantage in that area, the Knights will need to find a way to close that gap.

Andrean took their victory against Lafayette Central Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Fighting 59ers repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
