On Saturday, the Jennings County Panthers faced the Center Grove Trojans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Jennings County fell 64-57 to Center Grove. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Mollie Ernstes and Juliann Woodard certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Ernstes scored 18 points along with three steals, while Woodard scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Woodard has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Mcintosh, who scored seven points.
Center Grove got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lilly Bischoff out in front who almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. Bischoff has been hot recently, having posted eight or more assists the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Wirts, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Jennings County's loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 15-3. As for Center Grove, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 17-1.
Jennings County will head out on the road to square off against Floyd Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Floyd Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Jennings County is ranked eighth). As for Center Grove, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Columbus North at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Columbus North focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday.
