Meanwhile, it was a classic North v. South duel when Fort Wayne South Side took on Fort Wayne North Side on Saturday. The Archers blew past the Legends 21-0. That looming 21-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Archers yet this season.
Cameron Culver made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Fort Wayne South Side: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Adrian Belch - Watson was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Drew Pancake, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Fort Wayne South Side kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.
The win made it two in a row for Fort Wayne South Side and bumps their season record up to 4-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Fort Wayne Wayne, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fort Wayne Wayne has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fort Wayne South Side struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Fort Wayne Wayne couldn't quite finish off Fort Wayne South Side in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Generals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
