Baseball Recap: Crystal City Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Crystal City won against Dilley last Friday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Everything went the Javelinas' way against the Natalia Mustangs as they made off with a 14-2 win. Considering the Javelinas have won seven matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Adrian Zavala made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other pitching news, Michael Trevi?o looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits.

Back at the plate, Abraham Martinez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Crystal City's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Mata, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Crystal City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Natalia only posted an OBP of .391.

Crystal City's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-8. As for Natalia, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Crystal City is set to challenge their familiar foe Hondo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Natalia will square off against rival Cotulla at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
